Beat Street interview on jusalilhype, a great online magazine focusing on Vancity.
‘Throughout the Vancouver area, you hear many people saying how small Vancouver is or how everyone knows everyone. If this truly was the case, or even remotely, then you would have heard about all or most of the talented, innovative, and most of all, HYPED up individuals that riddle our cities. Clearly this is not the case for even a small portion of our population as there exists a large disconnect between impression and reality. Founder Alan Ng and co-founder Jenkin Au felt strongly about this disconnect and decided to feature what Vancouver has to offer in justalilhype!.
justalilhype! is a Vancouver-based magazine that covers fashion, artists, individuals and events through a blend of multicultural voices. The focus of our articles includes both underground and well-known subjects which sets us aside from other mainstream press outlets. Through our efforts and the readers interactive contribution system, we wish to push our citys unelevated level of HYPE to a higher level.”

Since the Olympics are in our great city of Vancouver, I thought I should write something sports related. How could I combine Canada’s favorite pastime with the Beat Street Blog? I know… Hockey Records!
King Richard’s Army

This nice little picture cover 45 came out in ‘82 after the Canucks strong playoff performance that took them to Stanley Cup final against the NY Islanders. All hail King Richard!!
Vancouver Canucks

Features interviews, play-by-play, and hockey tips from the 1970s Vancouver Canucks. Even has a few lo-fi drum breaks for producers to mine.
Hockey Night In Canada

2 LP CBC LP contains interviews, hockey history, play by play exerpts, and of course the legendary Hockey Night In Canada theme song. The CBC was crazy enough to give up the rights to the theme song a few years back, which TSN instantly grabbed for their own purposes. A Classic!
Great Moments Of Hockey

Another CBC record featuring highlights of the early days of hockey- play by play, interviews, history and more!
Guy LaFleur
Hilarious disco record with Guy Lafleur talking over top of generic disco music, giving his tips on how to play hockey. This gatefold LP also comes with an awesome poster of a bare chested Guy in all his glory.
The disco delivery blog has in-depth history of this lp.
Stompin Tom Connors

Its the best game you can name- the good ol’ hockey game!
Frank Mahovolich
Toronot Maple Leaf legend was so revered he caused a riot when he was suspended. Here he shares his best hockey tips for aspiring young hockey players.

Not only did he take on Joe Frazier and George Foreman, Muhammad Ali also worked for the American Dental Association and took on perhaps his biggeset opponent of all time.. Tooth Decay.
Its why we love the 70s. The ability to have Frank Sinatra, Howard Cosell, and Muhammad Ali all on record together, fighting against a mythical creature named tooth decay. Incredible!
‘I’m gonna get outta here, ALI toothbrushes fill me with FEAR!

Dynamite has some of the best comedy record covers you will ever see. Conceptually amazing, visually stunning, and incredibly funny, Dynamite is the bomb! (literally). Check out his other records like ‘Dynamite is Super Spook’ and ‘Dynamite Blows Your Mind’. Laff Records has a deep catalog of unknown x-rated comedy records and was the upstart label for comedians like Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx. Most releases have never been reissued on cd. Check out Rassodocks site that has the full(?) discography with pictures (nudity) of most of the releases.

We have had lots of people through the store asking the age old question ‘How can I fix my warped records?’. A little online reseach reveals the best methods involving 2 large panes of glass, and a quick trip the oven. Alternate methods include using natural sunlight. We have yet to experiment to find out the truth, but we will try some out and document.. stay tuned! In the meantime, check out the how-to wiki and see their method. We take no responsibility for damage to your records.
