It was recorded and mixed live to stereo tape\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eby Bryce Gonzales (the same engineer\/wizard known for his gorgeous live\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ecaptures\/mixes of Jeff Parker's ETA IVtet).\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBetween HOW YOU BEEN and their 2024 debut SMALL MEDIUM LARGE\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e(both of which were heavily edited, shaped and post-produced) the band has\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003edeveloped a reputation for records that are heavily fused, polished, and punchy.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe medium is on full post-modern display on those LPs, and the band’s post-\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eproduction knife can be responsible for much of the perspective—the tastiest\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003emorsels collected, arranged, and rearranged just so.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSpontaneous Music Live removes the curatorial perspective and pulls the\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ecurtain back on that search-pluck-reconstruct editing process. What we’re left\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ewith is the psychedelic realism of the band in situ, in their home town,\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ecollectively improvising, fully in-the-moment, mining for that moment of\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ediscovery.
